It never stopped though, but reading books takes time. And time is limited!</p><p>In 2021 I said to myself I really need to read more books. The 'to read' pile was starting to look like my lead mountain and take enormous proportion. I simply can't walk by a bookstore without at least taking a look, and many times enter the store to buy that book I can't do without. So, while still not the high book count from the old days, i did read some. And a few nice ones too, but only one can be the best! This is offcourse a personal choise, and if you think another book should be 'book of the year', please let me know.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhiE0nEX4oH5FzklnQ-8iSy-JGJdyBeGuvKoSkS9DbOsXm_nOpO7QP4J0fX9JP9M-8cIJvouwAKHzTWTU5YB9uKQ97C9HJuCmcS7yoeEbsqJYDtWfaggo-A4mMLSARa5Zm14Ru7ZCLCiswKHPNMZXH7Z7sZp-w91Sbv5DE5igbwP1MyiyuF4mnMKI3c=s4896" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhiE0nEX4oH5FzklnQ-8iSy-JGJdyBeGuvKoSkS9DbOsXm_nOpO7QP4J0fX9JP9M-8cIJvouwAKHzTWTU5YB9uKQ97C9HJuCmcS7yoeEbsqJYDtWfaggo-A4mMLSARa5Zm14Ru7ZCLCiswKHPNMZXH7Z7sZp-w91Sbv5DE5igbwP1MyiyuF4mnMKI3c=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>This book is originaly written in English, but if possible I try to read a book in my own language, Flemish (or Dutch which is the same). I bought this book because it had a painting on the cover that I recognised: Remnants of an Army, painted by Elisabeth Butler and showing the only survivor of the British army who reach safety after the debacle of the 1st Afghan War - William Brydon. I was a little confused by the title, Alexandrië (Alexandria in English), thinking it was about the best known Alexandria, the city in Egypt. But as this is the best known city founded by Alexander the Great, it was far from the only one. This city was also known as Alexandria under the Mountains.</p><p>This book tells the story of James Lewis, a British soldier in the East India Company. The story starts when he decides to leave the army in the summer of 1827. First thing he does is change his name. From now on he is Charles Masson. He leaves India by foot and enters the Afghan mountains. I'm not going to tell the comlete story, you will have to buy the book and find out for yourself. During the coming years, Charles got beaten up, become friends with kings and princes, almost freezes to death, searches and discovers and ancient city, land in prison, and become a spy. It is also about early archeology. And I have not even told about all the other strange characters which roam the pages of this fantastic book, friends and villains. The book also tells about the beginning of the First Afghan War (and how wrong the British East india Company was). It's a book for boys who've grown up. And while it is a biography, and tells about real events, it is far more exiting then most of the recent written fantasy books I know of. </p><p>Very much recommended!</p><p>Alexandrië by Edmund Richardson ISBN 9789048860487</p><p>In English ISBN 9781526603784</p>WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-72514798890009029942021-12-27T14:18:00.002-08:002022-01-07T16:16:55.756-08:00Pezhetairoi, or the Foot Companions.<p>AKA Macedonian pikemen.</p><p>I promised it wouldn't take very long before I posted pictures of my new Macedonians. This year have not been an easy one. I 'm getting older, and work is not getting easier. On top of that, I still am doing my many hours of sportive activity, staying healthy or at least trying to. And when there is time left I paint some of the many miniatures from the hughe lead Mountain. </p><p>In this first mail for the year (!), I present my Undead. I went through the Lead Mountain and painted all I had. Some are fairly recent plastics from Warlord Games. Others are metal from Wargames Foundry. And then there are the old scool Minifigs undead from Valley of the Winds and Aureola Rococo. For the younger readers here, some of those are among the first fantasy figures I ever owned. A few are more then 40 years old. While some are 'true' 25mm (VFW), others are 28mm. In the pictures they are all mixed up, and I don't think that is a problem. Make your own decision. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh8b5OqdaPzmAPp53YnBG7LtEOFsjzo7ErGmZSLeKKwU--jesfYm2sozbLl9cae5GV9hYs3kI2DqASlMb_g5U02l-cqknvexp7FqRXt6d6-xiZ5Hwoq6H-XZHJKhW0wE7XJGhsAe6z7SJVg70SeRtVyYoAvBd6sysEZedOzqYMT4R_kXMKO871lZJhC=s4896" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh8b5OqdaPzmAPp53YnBG7LtEOFsjzo7ErGmZSLeKKwU--jesfYm2sozbLl9cae5GV9hYs3kI2DqASlMb_g5U02l-cqknvexp7FqRXt6d6-xiZ5Hwoq6H-XZHJKhW0wE7XJGhsAe6z7SJVg70SeRtVyYoAvBd6sysEZedOzqYMT4R_kXMKO871lZJhC=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEidU-zloWUY_VVn4O8JovokQ0ZwdYE-id5Rb8dKJDmy1-2Q_mTvC3iRrOPZlBU1S_yXdrnjuxZxkUzTfXQAWGDkAOWKbZWf5XwfcfCM8U3QLBfFg5GNrzJIS-PwLIYd-ynhWHO6AkwMw2ynJ8VB24ss64u7p10OVekq67rfsMwBNNcpMlw4nM86REbl=s4896" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEidU-zloWUY_VVn4O8JovokQ0ZwdYE-id5Rb8dKJDmy1-2Q_mTvC3iRrOPZlBU1S_yXdrnjuxZxkUzTfXQAWGDkAOWKbZWf5XwfcfCM8U3QLBfFg5GNrzJIS-PwLIYd-ynhWHO6AkwMw2ynJ8VB24ss64u7p10OVekq67rfsMwBNNcpMlw4nM86REbl=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQZLq3f_0_nj9vFzb98f3qvNVcNxZTU3KR2W4UpAFZg1ipxV3FeNzWFqo-9LuiqMCVoP2QIpt446AK-58PBwzErfviqNyT39-6hZIapEKUTcmmXNU5_qbb0IiEm5us5vq9w4gMeFtJ0oLpkAPNf_tUMzuLsAPDiggdHv8MuLJIf-qBkEjdn8orwcFk=s4896" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQZLq3f_0_nj9vFzb98f3qvNVcNxZTU3KR2W4UpAFZg1ipxV3FeNzWFqo-9LuiqMCVoP2QIpt446AK-58PBwzErfviqNyT39-6hZIapEKUTcmmXNU5_qbb0IiEm5us5vq9w4gMeFtJ0oLpkAPNf_tUMzuLsAPDiggdHv8MuLJIf-qBkEjdn8orwcFk=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjtkn9T3Sqq5_A5TtCGbknfkziXfgx8_uLaXbZEgYiPnTIS02_vy6LWesSAS_XKa0EryoNJed4LYJMM3VtwE4aUBk5yfOAUJU_o9XD6pXM07C0w9mcPDasSj5AiDCAZ-n5gpEd04q9PJyGdxhGGEo81ra8VjFRrP1S0x82205mE9aF2tSM2_EojhPs_=s4896" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjtkn9T3Sqq5_A5TtCGbknfkziXfgx8_uLaXbZEgYiPnTIS02_vy6LWesSAS_XKa0EryoNJed4LYJMM3VtwE4aUBk5yfOAUJU_o9XD6pXM07C0w9mcPDasSj5AiDCAZ-n5gpEd04q9PJyGdxhGGEo81ra8VjFRrP1S0x82205mE9aF2tSM2_EojhPs_=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhzwnFMtAg_nwCFs6h-FwTOBVoHHGFL0qr7Wr1yjMsPL-q06oNc6GXj2sU4UHgclJLQueMsZPP_jgRFoe0CH8t1pmyEJ4mmz8LlBGIbQr5z2dhAYD4q6ZFLumAQj5N8aZqt36YosUj10GRQfHHU4987kplm1aSCmQRW6c9fs3qJvOMQPcrOQ4ZNmu7E=s4896" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhzwnFMtAg_nwCFs6h-FwTOBVoHHGFL0qr7Wr1yjMsPL-q06oNc6GXj2sU4UHgclJLQueMsZPP_jgRFoe0CH8t1pmyEJ4mmz8LlBGIbQr5z2dhAYD4q6ZFLumAQj5N8aZqt36YosUj10GRQfHHU4987kplm1aSCmQRW6c9fs3qJvOMQPcrOQ4ZNmu7E=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p>As you see, it is not the largest army ever seen. The centre point is maybe something special: the Great Bell Tower from the Valley of the Four Winds range, Miniature Figurines (aka Minifigs). I don't think I've seen pictures of it somewhere else, but surely I cannot be the only one who ownes one of these? It is far from the easiest kit to build, being a multipart metal model from the mid seventies, and is quiet fragile. I'm not sure if I will ever use it in a game.</p><p>I also have a few undead 'freshly' rising from the grave. Most are from Wargames Foundry or their sister fantasy site Warmonger. It was far from a good year for many, including me. The local wargames club has been closed for most part of the year. But let's try and make 2021 a far more better year!</p><p>I managed to take a few pictures of my long awaited 6mm Napoleonic army. The idea is that it doesn't have to be perfect painted, but it must be visible what the unit is representing. Flags help a lot with that! I have been painting on and off on this since march. I have no idea if this is a one off post, or will become a regular update again. I will try to be consistant and keep to the second option, though this blog seems to be very irregular in appearance.</p><p>So, what is new and worth blogging about, apart from this nasty virus which ruins much of our wargaming fun with friends? Well newly painted miniatures then maybe?</p><p>For now I will only show a few figures that were painted for my Gallic / Celtic / Galatian army in 28mm. (I also have many of these in 15mm, see )</p><p>For last ancient games we played in our local club, we used <a href="https://bigredbat.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">To the Strongest</a>. And to play it properly, each command, wing or however you want to call it (generaly 2 or 3) needs a camp. This camp takes up the space of one so called box, a table space of either 15cm x 15cm or 20cm x 20cm, depending on the scale of your battlefield. So I do need a few things like carts, camp followers, etc.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ybt4i-GDqsw/X8Vp1vxxvPI/AAAAAAAADKU/3rgdn_atz5QNVOOktqYrZBnrZRnj8nRgQCNcBGAsYHQ/s3648/DSC04719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ybt4i-GDqsw/X8Vp1vxxvPI/AAAAAAAADKU/3rgdn_atz5QNVOOktqYrZBnrZRnj8nRgQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04719.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VzIzjew3BE0/X8Vp1XcK1qI/AAAAAAAADKQ/pCIXQdwZ8ko-Ie-er9QuRDWvKpdXYTAlwCNcBGAsYHQ/s3395/DSC04721%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2546" data-original-width="3395" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VzIzjew3BE0/X8Vp1XcK1qI/AAAAAAAADKQ/pCIXQdwZ8ko-Ie-er9QuRDWvKpdXYTAlwCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04721%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Figures mostly from Wargames Foundry, druid is Warlord.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also have a few new warriors. Though I buy some now and then. With a bit of extra time, thanks to corona, I think this might be the moment to put some paint on at least some of them. The "victims" were two Renedra sets, Medieval Cottage 1300-1700 and Timber Outbuilding. Both are hard plastic kits, which should be glued together with your normal polythene cement. I use Tamiya (orange cap). The same I also use for my hard plastic miniatures. The kits fit together very well, and after letting the glue dry for a night, I painted it without undercoating. The usual techniques of highlighting and drybrushing were used, untill I thought they look good enough to fight over on tabletop .<br />

For the moment I'm working on something completely different. Here's a picture, so you might have an idea what it will be (or could become). It is yet another project / distraction I found somewere at the bottom of the dreaded Lead Pile.<br />

On top of that, I also painted two more vikings. Just as the figures above, they are made by Footsore Miniatures (which used to be Warbanner). I enjoyed painting them a lot. Some of the shields have LBMS shield transfers, but only a few. Others are hand painted.<br />

Yesterday, 8 february was the day for Warcon at Merelbeke, near Ghent. It is a lovely show organised by a few clubs who are based in or around Ghent. I visited this show for more then ten years in a row, and it seems to grow slowly but steady! it does not attract the storm of people you see at Crisis, which still is the largest show on continental Europe. Warcon is more the friendly "game a bit & meet old and new friends" type of show. Which does not mean there are no traders. This year there were several German and Dutch traders, next to the popular oversea (British) traders: Wargames Foundry, Dave Thomas and Warlord Games.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Me friends and myself put up a small game of To the Strongest with my old 15mm miniatures, representing our own club: HQ Gaming Club. And surprise, we actually finished the game before the end of the show, despite a few long pauzes as we talked to other gamers and scrambled the B&B! I had a few talks to other gamers who already knew the game. TtS seems to become more popular in Belgium too.</div>
<div>
I made a small scenario, where the invading Galatians attack a small village, after they raided a supply post from the Seleucids. So the Galatians have that ancinet weapon of terror: scythed chariots! Now lets see if they know how to use it properly!</div>

The other side of the venue. Lots of more games.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was a lot more to see. For example the game set up by The Alde Garde from Venlo, the Netherlands. Unfortunately, I got into a talk with the club members, and forgot to take a few pictures afterwards. They had a 18th C game in 15mm where a battle took place in front of a well fortified town (Maastricht?) It looked very good, with over 1400 figs on the table! They used Honours of War (Osprey Games) as rules, and told it worked well with this amount of figures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Many more games were played, I also noticed Warhammer Ancient Battles was again used. Maybe I should try to get this going again at our club also. We'll see if I can find some Chinese volunteers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had a great day out anyway. Grabbed a few things at the B&B (about the same amount as I sold off), and visited my favorite traders for some paint and a few extra figures. Most liked the talking to other gamers though. It gave me the mojo again to start painting again. Now, off to the painting desk!</div>

I have it for so long I don't remember from what company it comes. I bought it new, I remember, got it out of the package and glued it together. Then I painted it in a black basecoat and left it as is for a few years. So I finaly removed the dust and painted it.<br />
There is one more picture. To show the size of it, I made a picture with a normal sized 28mm figure (Footsore Miniatures) next to it.<br />

<br />
I hope february will have a few more painted models ready. My Lead Mountain is now so huge, I don't know where to start. After the second part of my Saga warband, that is, which is only 16 miniatures. I need to start working again on one of my larger projects. Either ancient Greeks/Macedonians or Napoleonics, not decided yet.<br />
<br />
Next weekend I hope to finaly play a proper wargame also. That still did not happen in 2020!<br />
Saturday I will put on a small demo game of To the Strongest with my old 15mm figures at Warcon, a local wargames show. Who knows I will make a few pictures to show here next time.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-38035681641987432212019-12-31T09:35:00.002-08:002019-12-31T09:35:49.360-08:00The last one this year.Pics of my latest painting!<br />
<br />
My new Saga warband: Norse-Gaels. I wouldn't call a few figures an army, so it's a warband! All from the excellent Footsore Dark ages range, except the warlord, which is (I think) Gripping Beast.<br />
<br />
Happy New Year to you all!<br />

<br />WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-83278381974943338272019-11-01T06:27:00.000-07:002019-11-01T06:27:12.584-07:00Halloween - Bring out your ... lead?Well, slightly overdue, but here is yet another update of me painting!<br />
The title of this blogpost is obviously linked to the well known movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I must soon see that one again on DVD.<br />
<br />
As it is that time of the year, why not have a bit of a scary subject? Somewere, deep beneath the dreaded Lead Mountain, I knew I still had some very old skeleton miniatures. I'm trying to kickstart my painting habit again, and simple, quick to paint miniatures are the best way to get going. To me anyway. So here are some +40 years old skeletons from Minifigs' Valley of the Four Winds range.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vJCyeQLghJU/XbwtuM1CMrI/AAAAAAAACPU/fT4iOEc9CI8UBT_ljV-lU7P6X3gmt4q0QCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC04409%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vJCyeQLghJU/XbwtuM1CMrI/AAAAAAAACPU/fT4iOEc9CI8UBT_ljV-lU7P6X3gmt4q0QCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04409%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8kA010jg9sU/XbwtuDS3QGI/AAAAAAAACPQ/pWXLJaY2Wy03dq-ZRdXM6ZCjhpmVibpFQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC04412%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8kA010jg9sU/XbwtuDS3QGI/AAAAAAAACPQ/pWXLJaY2Wy03dq-ZRdXM6ZCjhpmVibpFQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04412%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had to put the foot skeletons on higher bases, as they are "true" 25mm figures. By doing this, I could put them next to the few skeletons I had painted some years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_AgZ8rIgjIs/XbwviHQ6API/AAAAAAAACPg/QijJmrCX1HsuAoQvgCIUdcPSbW3sGb23gCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC04413%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_AgZ8rIgjIs/XbwviHQ6API/AAAAAAAACPg/QijJmrCX1HsuAoQvgCIUdcPSbW3sGb23gCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04413%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Everyone knows that undead don't rize out of the earth by themselves, so I needed some kind of magic-user too. Yet another old model was used for this. This time form Minifigs Aureola Rococco range, which is also nearly 40 years old! His guardian on horseback is, I think an old Citadel Chaos warrior. I dod not have the apropriate horse, but had a spare late medieval Essex horse. Fits nicely methinks!<br />

The skeletons raising from the earth are form Warmonger / Wargames Foundry.<br />
That's my undead troops, ready for a small skirmish. <a href="https://onepagerules.com/" target="_blank">One Page Rules</a> skirmish will be tested later today with some of my friends. See you soon!<br />
<br />
PS The plastic Napoleonic French are on the hold for now. I have some problems with my printer, and can't print the flags for now. It is not that I didn't do anything, but to be fair, my wargaming hobby was on a much lower level then it used to be.<br />
I will try to post more regular from now on, but don't expect a weekly message! Once a month will do (I hope).<br />
My figure painting for this year is at the lowest since 2012. Well, time to do something about that!<br />
But, first I'll post a few pictures of recently painted figs.<br />
<br />
Here are a few late medieval plastic Perry Mins from the AO range, I painted for a young family member. He (age 9) was very interested when he noticed my painting desk, so what better to do then paint a few for him as a birthday present!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-10DSLufXLrc/XYpgopavkrI/AAAAAAAACIs/4Qxvt_5jSH0kVKxlJE5KDIhc0QdPZMczwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC04399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-10DSLufXLrc/XYpgopavkrI/AAAAAAAACIs/4Qxvt_5jSH0kVKxlJE5KDIhc0QdPZMczwCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04399.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-en3uuneXlDo/XYpgovWgQ2I/AAAAAAAACIo/ihnxghPH6UY0yhDeVF27Bxd2ttwhxNzZwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC04400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-en3uuneXlDo/XYpgovWgQ2I/AAAAAAAACIo/ihnxghPH6UY0yhDeVF27Bxd2ttwhxNzZwCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DSC04400.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The pictures are not that great, but I was in a hurry before "delivery", later that same day. In the distance you can see what I'm currently working on for my own. Yes, it's more plastic Perry's but from another range...WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-13039243718126333172018-09-14T14:35:00.000-07:002018-09-14T14:35:00.004-07:00Just a short notice and some pictures.As the title says, some pictures below of what I've recently painted.<br />
Two units of French infantry, 24 figs each.<br />
They are Perry Mins plastics and the start of what should become a division for Quatre Bras. This could take a while though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-khXSYYu46Bo/W5wni73ZpGI/AAAAAAAABjg/wq_bD4-zQqUMsMewIW8SzuiWYRdyJyVCgCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-khXSYYu46Bo/W5wni73ZpGI/AAAAAAAABjg/wq_bD4-zQqUMsMewIW8SzuiWYRdyJyVCgCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03653.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
And what I think will be the last unit of Spartans. At least for now. I have three more of these units, for a total of 144 Spartan hoplites.<br />
36 figs of mixed armour, from no armour to heavy bronze armour, Foundry Miniatures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I'm currently working on a 15mm project, but It might take longer then I thought before this is ready.<br />
More to come when I find the time, and have something to show!WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-60587752171846728302018-02-06T14:37:00.001-08:002018-02-06T14:37:29.990-08:00My army is ready (to stop the French).At last, pictures of my Napoleonic army!<br />
The complete 2nd Netherlands Infantry Division, plus supporting cavalry.<br />
<br />
As said in the former message, I've been working on this army on and of for a way too long time. But it did got finished at the end!<br />

I was planning to post earlier, but as they say, real live intervened.<br />
<br />
As the title says, YES, after a very long time, I finaly could finish the last few things I had yet to paint for my Dutch-Belgian Napoleonic army!<br />
Two more guns and two brigade commanders. The commanders and one gun were ready just before the end of the year, but I wanted to show them only when I had them all painted. Which happened last weekend.<br />
So here are one foot gun and one horse gun, both 6 pounders.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WABU5zkyUbc/WlaAaHozZAI/AAAAAAAAA_o/5NSW0BJ1U8099FYrosgLxRc2Xdu9yT76wCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03521%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WABU5zkyUbc/WlaAaHozZAI/AAAAAAAAA_o/5NSW0BJ1U8099FYrosgLxRc2Xdu9yT76wCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03521%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IiB91T1Uq0s/WlaAaHU85jI/AAAAAAAAA_s/LrVGaapTZQoVtDUKM0RwLgQ6BT4XL8ObACLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03522%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IiB91T1Uq0s/WlaAaHU85jI/AAAAAAAAA_s/LrVGaapTZQoVtDUKM0RwLgQ6BT4XL8ObACLcBGAs/s320/DSC03522%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v3pCTRYFlcQ/WlaAZ782fEI/AAAAAAAAA_k/U5ypzBsQa1M0ukT_6eV07Ec62uCTBCzBACLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03523%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v3pCTRYFlcQ/WlaAZ782fEI/AAAAAAAAA_k/U5ypzBsQa1M0ukT_6eV07Ec62uCTBCzBACLcBGAs/s320/DSC03523%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The one on your right is the foot gun, should you want to know.<br />
<br />
Meaning I now have two artillery batteries!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Xcn8N89YpM/WlaBJmzhLHI/AAAAAAAAA_0/lCFlUefcRj4dLq5LSlgIhfbHg7oh7_j4wCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Xcn8N89YpM/WlaBJmzhLHI/AAAAAAAAA_0/lCFlUefcRj4dLq5LSlgIhfbHg7oh7_j4wCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03525.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The army is initialy build to use with the Black Powder rulesset from Warlord Games. In these rules it is said that an artillery battery is only one gun, but I think that this does not look good. So two guns per battery it will be.<br />
<br />
Ah yes, there are also the last two commanders to paint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wQFIqHETJj0/WlaC3344hxI/AAAAAAAABAE/2gTPNloaIOQWup_nezqWv_YbEunXRWFEACLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wQFIqHETJj0/WlaC3344hxI/AAAAAAAABAE/2gTPNloaIOQWup_nezqWv_YbEunXRWFEACLcBGAs/s320/DSC03526.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UaSqZ8FN97A/WlaC3xkEpII/AAAAAAAABAA/yi2tQlJfOf0j5n-T-yqUt1tG8WhMd4TQwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03527.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UaSqZ8FN97A/WlaC3xkEpII/AAAAAAAABAA/yi2tQlJfOf0j5n-T-yqUt1tG8WhMd4TQwCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03527.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
They are on your left Mjr.-Gen. Jean-Baptiste Van Merlen, commander of the Dutch-Belgian 2nd light cavalry brigade. And on your right Mjr.-Gen. Willem Frederik Van Bylandt, commander of the 1st brigade, 2nd Dutch-Belgian infantry Division.<br />
As usual, all miniatures are <a href="https://www.perry-miniatures.com/index.php" target="_blank">Perry Miniatures</a>.<br />
<br />
Now that I have a more or less complete army, I'm in doubt if I should spend some more money and get me two artillery limbers also? I'll think about that.<br />
I will post some pictures of the complete army in the near future. I hope to find the time next weekend, but we'll see about that.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-23765059443623391722017-12-19T13:52:00.000-08:002017-12-19T13:52:28.989-08:00The Nassau project.Finaly! My Nassau brigade for Quatre Bras is ready for action.<br />
I've just checked my own blog, and the first battalion of this brigade was painted more then 2 years ago. Shocking it took so long! My main problem is one that many wargamers have I think: being a wargame butterfly, and shifting from one period to another game. And sometimes back again. Just check my blog and see what I've been doing since I'm blogging.<br />
But without further delay, here are the pictures.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RjXrJhkm8nA/WjmDxf62RjI/AAAAAAAAA-k/zkqQl4isjjEwfAARfxrwfAo7wh0t7wBhwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03439.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RjXrJhkm8nA/WjmDxf62RjI/AAAAAAAAA-k/zkqQl4isjjEwfAARfxrwfAo7wh0t7wBhwCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03439.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1st battalion, 2nd regiment of Nassau. As all other battalions, this was a large battalion, consisting of almost 900 men. So 36 figures strong.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9PfOHGcaocY/WjmEOR7MWGI/AAAAAAAAA-o/ruTPY_DuIJI8nAmGc-8qTsZh-PTx9K24QCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9PfOHGcaocY/WjmEOR7MWGI/AAAAAAAAA-o/ruTPY_DuIJI8nAmGc-8qTsZh-PTx9K24QCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03442.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2nd Battalion, 2nd regiment of Nassau. Also 36 figures strong.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KQUoctWGf_U/WjmEmJUJRzI/AAAAAAAAA-w/7LFvuCatTzQSYaZyrV6uq95GUr8VKlVdwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03443.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KQUoctWGf_U/WjmEmJUJRzI/AAAAAAAAA-w/7LFvuCatTzQSYaZyrV6uq95GUr8VKlVdwCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03443.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3rd Battalion, 2nd regiment of Nassau. Another large 36 figures unit. I gave these white trousers, such as they wore earlier in Spain. There are several discussions about the trousers of this unit. Prescription was green trousers at the time of the Waterloo campaign, but it is not sure if all units got green trousers in time. So just for variety...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And finaly a picture of the complete brigade.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3 Battalions of the 2nd Nassau regiment.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2 Battalions of the 28th Orange-Nassau regiment</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1 company of Orange-Nassau Volunteer Jaegers</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And including their commander, Major-General Prinz Bernard von Saxe-Weimar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EeT83gC_8jE/WjmHl48BPnI/AAAAAAAAA_A/BS32PfRQRS0I-bkk7BYIM3xKMFqQ-AXCQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03444.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EeT83gC_8jE/WjmHl48BPnI/AAAAAAAAA_A/BS32PfRQRS0I-bkk7BYIM3xKMFqQ-AXCQCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03444.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
That's a total of 4 large 36 figures units, 1 standard 24 figures unit and a tiny unit of just 6 figures.<br />
As before, all from the loveley <a href="https://www.perry-miniatures.com/index.php" target="_blank">Perry Miniatures</a> range.<br />
<br />
I'm currently painting a few more things that were missing, to complete the whole 2nd Netherland infantry division. So, yet more Napoleonics coming soon!<br />
With a little luck, even before the end of this year.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-18808005103722203122017-12-03T14:51:00.000-08:002017-12-03T14:51:08.577-08:00The Warrior Princess (and more).It's been a while, I have been busy with other things. Real life interevened as they say.<div>
There has been some painting at least. For those who are awaiting more Napoleonics, you just have to wait a bit longer, almost there...</div>
<div>
To begin with, here is the Warrior Princess, age 7.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--QAlMxJ_LYY/WiR5UruJH-I/AAAAAAAAA9A/AkEs_PRcinwZWhP0x6_9aTcs9YFEj17bACLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--QAlMxJ_LYY/WiR5UruJH-I/AAAAAAAAA9A/AkEs_PRcinwZWhP0x6_9aTcs9YFEj17bACLcBGAs/s320/DSC03423.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cute, isn't she? This figure was part of a larger lot that I bought many moons ago from a website which also had a very active forum, FUUK. They held an annual sculpting competition, and the best figures got actually produced and were up for sale. This figure was part of one of those competitions. I should have the other figures somewere hidden...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And then there is this very famous but also slightly confused wizard.</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RMozVAGU2yg/WiR6qBx3ALI/AAAAAAAAA9M/AEfElWDJ7BEWhBnCDVlOIgmGnMAutQjvwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03424.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RMozVAGU2yg/WiR6qBx3ALI/AAAAAAAAA9M/AEfElWDJ7BEWhBnCDVlOIgmGnMAutQjvwCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03424.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
It is not always easy to be the best at your core business.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u54OdbiH5f0/WiR6-pXn8SI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/cpDeSLgylx4UHBstu_jGhM9_neATjbOsQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSC03425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u54OdbiH5f0/WiR6-pXn8SI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/cpDeSLgylx4UHBstu_jGhM9_neATjbOsQCLcBGAs/s320/DSC03425.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Certainly when things happen that you don't expect, or are not meant to happen. Like dead people rising from the grave! Rusty and oxydated weapons and all!</div>

Next time probably Napoleonics.</div>

Command bases for my Napoleonic Dutch-Belgian troops. As usual all Perry Miniatures.<br />

Three bases, one for each upcoming battalion of the 2nd regiment. Those are being build as "large" battalions in (our) Black Powder terms, so each regiment will be 36 figures strong.<br />
Already two finished, and currently working on the third. once this is ready, pictures here!<br />
<br />
My Dutch-Belgian devision, started many moons ago is nearly finished now. After this regiment, I only need to paint two more guns and two brigade commanders.<br />
Since a few more club members showed interest in Napoleonics, I started painting my own again.<br />
On the other side, I bought quite a few new unpainted Perry's at Crisis past weekend... Another post may follow about Crisis.<br />
<br />
As a side note, I also painted a few loose fantasy figures, which will eventualy get there own blog post.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-50963422707074395182017-10-27T11:48:00.002-07:002017-10-27T11:48:57.478-07:00More Aureola Rococo Knights.I've been painting historical miniatures for a while now, so it is maybe time for a short break. A few months ago, I could finaly buy the few figures I was missing to build another two units. Many thanks to Dave from <a href="http://www.caliverbooks.com/index.php" target="_blank">Caliverbooks</a>, who owns <a href="http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/Home.aspx" target="_blank">Miniature Figurines</a> (or Minifigs for short) for bringing them back into production!<br />
I believe my Knight s of the Silver Rose army is now finished, having at least one of each of the produced miniatures.<br />
<br />
The new recruits are a unit of spearmen.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As usual the flag is a free download, originaly from Perry Miniatures' Korean range. I painted a linear B symbol on it, to show the ancient character of these troops, as I did with all other units before.</div>

<br />
This is the only unit in the army that doesn't have a flag, I think they don't need one since they use a shooting weapon and normaly don't come into hand to hand combat. Or at least they hope so.<br />
<br />
That's it, my fantasy army is ready for battle!<br />
Maybe some pictures of the complete army?<br />

I hope you like the look of the army. It was a great pleasure to paint them. I finaly have the army I dreamed of as a 15 year old! It's only that I'm now ...51.<br />
<br />
As always, any comments welcome!WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-86869035164172418692017-09-29T11:37:00.002-07:002017-09-29T11:45:09.568-07:00That strange word again: Thureophoroi.Yes, I bould another unit of thureophoroi! Build I said, because this time I used a <strike>box</strike> bag of plastic Victrix miniatures. I've seen boxes of Victrix before, but the newest releases seems to come in bags. Which is a bit harder to stock. Boxes can be stacked, but this is a bit more difficult with bags full of plastic sprues without danger of damaging them if put on a too high mountain of plastic.<br />
<br />
For more info on thureophoroi, click <a href="https://miniwargamers.blogspot.be/search/label/thureophoroi" target="_blank">here</a> or on "thureophoroi" in the labels list on the right side.<br />
<br />
But enough rambling. On to the real thing. I've bought a bag of Victrix Numidians after seeing them on a small local wargaming event a few months ago. I don't need Numidians, or at least not currently, but after a closer second look, I thought, wait a minute. These look usefull as thureophoroi too. In this set are two different sets of heads: One, the typical Numidians, and the other a helmeted version. There are also two different shields sets added. the well known round shield used by the Numidians as we know them, and a second set of larger thureos type shields. As the figures were not expensive at all (thanks to David Thomas!), well, lets give it a try.<br />
<br />
The result is very pleasing I think. Especially as sticking the figures together was really easy. Glue on the right side arm, glue on a shield on the left arm, and stick a head on it. I used a very basic painting scheme: prime, basic colour and wash. Even with my extremely slow painting skills, they were build and painted in less then two weeks. I can see myself buying a second set of these in the near future. And probably more Victrix plastic ancients, as they are very close in size to my existing ancient armies (mostly Foundry).<br />
My units of thureophoroi are 18 figs strong, and since there were 24 figs in the bag, I painted the other six as "propper" Numidians.<br />
<br />
Thureophoroi, with withe shields, as it are mostly seen or discribed in anciet sources:<br />

See <a href="https://aventineminiatures.co.uk/" target="_blank">here</a> for the Aventine website.<br />
Well, I could use some more elephants I thought, so I ordered a fully armoured elephant from their range. It is a multipart beast, and I stuck it together that same day. And then it stood there, on a shelf, for many months. And then after all this time, I ordered another one, also armoured, but a different model (they do have a very large range of elephants!). That one was also build rather quickly, but there was no place next to the other on the shelf of unpainted - still to do stuff.<br />
Ah, what the heck, lets paint them both I thought. The result is rather pleasing, I must say.<br />
You can judge them for yourself right here:<br />

The Roman, dangling from the grips of one of the elephants was a nice extra, which I "needed" to buy when I ordered one of them. The shield on the ground is actually a left over from a Gallic plastic set, I believe from Wargames Factory. If you watched the pictures on my former blog post, you may have noticed that the elephants were already on the table there, in one of our double Armati battles.<br />
<br />
More troops in the picture soon.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-1650609318856216982017-09-10T11:38:00.000-07:002017-09-11T08:53:30.596-07:00That took some time!I should have done this a lot earlier. I've neglected my blog way to long. Shortly after my former post, some months ago, a few unexpected things happened in my live. At that moment, I stopped having time for wargaming and/or painting. Interest was also (temporary) fading.<br />
<br />
When I had more time again for my hobby, we (wife & me) went on a planned vacation, so again no games nor painting. I did read some books while on vacation! One of which is part of the famous "Wargaming in History" range. It was part 8, The Austro-Prussian War. Very interesting, even if not my period. The battles replayed here really got me thinking about the way I play my games, and how to improve them. At that moment I was sorry I didn't have a few miniatures and paints with me...<br />
<br />
It was already july when I could finaly pick up a paint brush, and start to play games again.<br />
So the next few blog posts will be about what I did do since that last post in ... april. Not necessarily in chronological order.<br />
Games, yes! That's what it is all about isn't it?<br />
So why not start with a few pictures of recent games?<br />
<br />
Recently we fought two different battles, using Armati II as rules. We used the "intro" scheme, because we wanted a game with two armies against two others, and used a 4' x 8' table.<br />
For those who don't know the rules, it is a bit like DBA, in that each base is a unit on its own, but for the rest gameplay is totaly different, and may I say: more interesting. Armies are also slightly larger, around 14 to 20 bases.<br />
<br />
A few photo's maybe? They are made with my smart phone, so quality is a bit less. The light is also far from perfect in our local clubhouse.<br />

The Galatians broke through on several places, taking a flank and and ending the battle.<br />
The counters and minidice in the photo's are used to keep track of hits being taken, fatigue and undressed (loosing discipline) state of units.<br />
<br />
A week later, a second battle was fought, this time a slightly more unhistorical battle between a Pyrrhic army with Carthaginian allies against a Antigonid force. At the end, the Antigonids won a very narrow victory. There was lots of action, with four elephant units on the table!<br />
But see for yourself.<br />

I lost my spirit because of working on too many projects and not finishing one.<br />
What I did get ready for battle are my 15mm pike units. I finished 72 freshly painted Leukaspides (white shields), good for two units, and repainted two more 36 figure units. Each of the six units also got their movement tray for playing To the Strongest (TtS for short), the ancients rules set by Simon Miller AKA BigRedBat (see <a href="http://bigredbat.blogspot.be/" target="_blank">BigRedBatCave</a>) . I bought these rules when they were just out and after playing a few solo games, tried to get my friends playing. I must admit that since then we only played one (1!) game.<br />
Last year at Crisis in Antwerp I also played a game set up by Simon and friends, using 15mm figures, and that got me searching for my own old 15mm figures. Most of them are well over 30 years old, but who'll notice that, when there are several hunderds of them on the battlefield?<br />
Anyway, lots of rambling by me, but here are a few pictures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3rjSs2Jjr0M/WPIF0NymI2I/AAAAAAAAA2k/rvTXli1NF4wBPQlxMK1coUw9zF-_HH1EQCLcB/s1600/DSC03078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3rjSs2Jjr0M/WPIF0NymI2I/AAAAAAAAA2k/rvTXli1NF4wBPQlxMK1coUw9zF-_HH1EQCLcB/s320/DSC03078.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 units of Leukaspides (White Shields)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SBKeVajFthM/WPIGN9qPFBI/AAAAAAAAA2o/jx_YeSPueE0FajpMXYtMU973ETFITXVewCLcB/s1600/DSC03089.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SBKeVajFthM/WPIGN9qPFBI/AAAAAAAAA2o/jx_YeSPueE0FajpMXYtMU973ETFITXVewCLcB/s320/DSC03089.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 repainted units. Argyraspides on your left, Chalkaspides on your right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NyoUZ6kniBA/WPIG0o2Zs3I/AAAAAAAAA2w/EIet7elmMtILPVVH_9p_MGQ5BcyvHkQIgCLcB/s1600/DSC03090%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NyoUZ6kniBA/WPIG0o2Zs3I/AAAAAAAAA2w/EIet7elmMtILPVVH_9p_MGQ5BcyvHkQIgCLcB/s320/DSC03090%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And all six units.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's it for heavy infantry for my Seleucids in 15mm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you've never heard of Argyraspides, Leukaspides or Chalkaspides, don't despair! It are just the names of phalanx units, named after the colour of their shields. Spides is the type of shield. So Argyraspides are the famous Silver Shields (who also existed in Alexander the Great's army and were his elite phalanx troops). Leukaspides are the White Shields and Chalkaspides are the Bronze Shields.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I plan to build movement trays for all my other 15mm units now. This might take some time as I'm now trying to clear my painting desk of half painted units and loose figures...</div>

Sorry it took so long to post, I have been sick for a whole week. The year just started and my painting schedule is already a week late.<br />
<br />
I'm currently working on my 15mm Seleucid army again. The plan is to enlarge it to a proper To the Strongest army. I have a plan with them...WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9024867695607805852.post-86769715122353602282016-12-31T05:34:00.000-08:002017-01-08T02:41:08.777-08:00End of the year catch up, part 3 - fantasy.Yes, I still "do" fantasy!<br />
As most of my friends know, I have a soft spot for everything concerning JRR Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Next to a extensive book collection, I also own many miniatures based on Tolkien's mythology. That I have so much and painted so little of them has everything to do with finding a suitable rulesset. Do I base them as single models, or multi- based? This is something that got me strugling for too many years. In the mean time, the collection of unpainted figures grew over the years. I now could field huge armies of Men of Gondor, Elves, Dwarves, and of course huge masses of evil Orcs and the likes. If I only painted them!<br />
About time to make a good start.<br />

This is a Troll or Olog-Hai command group of Gundabad, the Iron Tower. Which is visible at the banner and shield emblem. The models are painted individual, so skin colour is not excactley the same on each of them.<br />

Castings are by the famous <a href="http://www.mithril.ie/" target="_blank">Mithril Miniatures</a>, sculpted by the talented Chris Tubb. They are not cheap, but worth the money. Most miniatures are multi-part, but hardly visible, even without using putty. And mould lines are also non-excisting.WimVdBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07940895476522477142noreply@blogger.com2
