More Trolls!

I promised before to show pictures of more painted Trolls. Well, here they are.

They are also made by Mithril Miniatures, and as you see, they have a large range of different models of Trolls. They have even more variants then I show you here. Going from cave trolls to the smarter and much more dangerous Olog-Hai.

Sorry it took so long to post, I have been sick for a whole week. The year just started and my painting schedule is already a week late.

I'm currently working on my 15mm Seleucid army again. The plan is to enlarge it to a proper To the Strongest army. I have a plan with them...

End of the year catch up, part 3 - fantasy.

Yes, I still "do" fantasy!
As most of my friends know, I have a soft spot for everything concerning JRR Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Next to a extensive book collection, I also own many miniatures based on Tolkien's mythology. That I have so much and painted so little of them has everything to do with finding a suitable rulesset. Do I base them as single models, or multi- based? This is something that got me strugling for too many years. In the mean time, the collection of unpainted figures grew over the years. I now could field huge armies of Men of Gondor, Elves, Dwarves, and of course huge masses of evil Orcs and the likes. If I only painted them!
About time to make a good start.

This is a Troll or Olog-Hai command group of Gundabad, the Iron Tower. Which is visible at the banner and shield emblem. The models are painted individual, so skin colour is not excactley the same on each of them.

Castings are by the famous Mithril Miniatures, sculpted by the talented Chris Tubb. They are not cheap, but worth the money. Most miniatures are multi-part, but hardly visible, even without using putty. And mould lines are also non-excisting.

Warning, a fantasy update.

I'm still (slowly it seems) working on a Gripping Beast /Polemos phalanx unit.
I hope to have it finished by next weekend.

In the mean time I'll share a few pictures of a small vignette I painted last summer, and forgot to post pictures of.

It is called "Beregond fighting a Troll at the Black Gate".
And yes that is a Hobbit in the rear of Beregond. Either Pippin or Merry, I'm not shure about it.

I tried to make it look as good as I can, but I'm struggling a bit with highlighting black.

I'm still trying to make my pictures look better.
Any advice is always welcome.
Also on painting black , as next year I will probably start painting the Black Brunswickers at Quatre Bras!

Odds & ends.

My wife thought it the right time to replace my old painting desk. It is over 10 years old, and she thinks it doen't look right anymore between our other furniture. There were quite a few half-painted miniatures there which have been drifting from left to right, and front to back, some even for years. So now the time was right to get them finaly finished.

Among them several of the famous Mithril miniatures http://www.mithril.ie/. this range of miniatures exists since somewere in the 1980's and is solely formed around JRR Tolkien's world of Middle-Earth. I collect them since 1996, but have yet to paint most of what I have (many hunderds!)
Here are the models I've recently painted: a mounted Nazgul and some Corsairs of Umbar.

 In between cardboard boxes, basing materials etc I also found things I didn't even know I still had them. All very usefull for skirmish games. It realy was time for a major clean-up!

A picture of my new, and large painting desk will follow soon.
After this, it will be back to unit-painting now. I plan to start on yet another 48 figs unit of pikemen, the last of the Wargames Foundry pikemen I have. I think...

This will probably be my last blog entry before the years end, so a merry Christmas and a wonderful 2012 to you all!
